Winter of 2010 will make serious financial problems for Georgian population

According to statistical evidence, almost 8,5% of Georgian population receive social security today, but the number of people registered in a whole base evidence of vulnerable families makes up 40,6% of the population.

As for the evidence in common, it looks as following: under the data of the Agency of Social Service 4 371 535 people are registered in Georgia ( according to 2002 population census) and according to October evidence, in the whole base data of vulnerable people 545 032 families are registered among them, in the whole – there are 1 778 885 people. As for those people who receive social security, their number accounts for 371 426 that is nearly more by 18 thousand people compared with September evidence.

As per September 2002 evidence, among 551 799 families registered in the base, 353 610 people received social security, i.e. about 8% of the whole population.

According to the experts opinion, rather a large number of people lives under poverty line in Georgia today and in case economic condition is not improved, the figures will grow up more in the future.

Georgia shifted to such a regime when food prices affect on inflation as well as on data of minimum income of survival. But the number of vulnerable people will grow till the end of the year unless lari undergoes a sharp strengthening towards dollar that seems a miracle.

“Of course, the number of such people will increase. Generally, there are more expenses in winter period, but there are no essential factors of income growth in fact. Also it must be taken into consideration that prices are not decreased, on the contrary – they continue to boost. All these factors surely affect on increase of expenses. The more prices grow at the expense of stable income, the poorer people become. We must assume that the poverty will rise to higher level.

“Prices boosted by 8,5 times compared with 1993. If one kilo potatoes cost about 8 cents in 1993, today it costs about 67 cents. The same refers to other products” – says Soso Archvadze

All these problems become more serious owing to the fact that unemployment problem has not only been settled but deteriorated as well. In the last period, the upper echelons of the authority admitted it too.

For example, Georgian President already says openly that in Tbilisi every forth person is partially of fully unemployed.

“This is a shocking result. When on the world stock-market the prices of wheat, flour, buckwheat, rice and other essential food products grow up, we must understand that it affects the people who are vulnerable. For the Japanese it is not problem if bread’s price increases by 10 %”, - says Saakashvili.

The President promises that Georgian government will influence on prices, but – partially. “When prices go up in the neighboring countries- we won’t close the borders, will we? – says the first person of Georgia.

Everyone knows well how the government effects on the prices. Before now, their each “strive” resulted leaping or crawling growth of prices.
